With reference to our letter

of the 4th February, I have the honour to inform you that the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation have informed us that they desired to deposit the securities referred to, as soon as possible.

On our informing them that we had not yet received the approval of the Secretary of State to accept the securities, the bank offered to deposit 2255,000 Treasury bills due 6th May, and we have accepted their offer on the understanding that if the Secretary of state approves of our receiving the securities mentioned in our letter of the 4th February, we will release the Treasury bills in exchange for them.
